If you’re an athlete it’s very important to stay fit and healthy. If you’re wondering why that is important, it is because when being an athlete you have to master the skills needed to be successful in that sport. Being unhealthy will not help you master needed skills.

“It is important for kids to eat healthy because America has an obesity problem and we eat too much junk food as it is,” said Mr. Carlson, 7th grade P.E. teacher. He added that we need to eat more fruits and vegetables. He also stated we need to stay away from high sugar and high sodium foods because these are one of the reasons why we are unhealthy in America.

Maintaining a healthy diet is one way to ensure you are healthy and fit according to the website TeensHealth.Org. In your diet you should be eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. Another important element to being healthy is eating protein because it will help your muscles grow. Proteins you should eat are beans, nuts, and dairy foods. Fruits and veggies you should eat as well are berries, pears, apples, green peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, and many others.

Did you know sleep is very important for your health? It is important because if you don’t get enough rest your body will shut down as stated on the website National Institutes on Health. Without enough sleep, you will start to get very tired and maybe even have some health issues. For example, high blood pressure and diabetes. Not getting enough sleep can also affect your mind the website mentioned. It can affect your ability to form memories, your ability to think clearly and your reaction time.

It is recommended for kids to get enough sleep because without proper sleep our brain and bodies do not function correctly. Mr. Carlson also stated learning will become difficult because students that do not get enough sleep will focus on how tired they are instead of learning what is taught in class.

Keep yourself healthy by following these basic steps. Make sure you get about 8-10 hours of sleep each day. Exercise by doing cardio, or strength training and eat the right foods.
